Description

The Stronger Rural Health Strategy aims to build a sustainable, high quality health workforce that is distributed across the country according to community need particularly in rural and remote communities.

Why is this useful for rural and remote people to read?

This is the document that sets out exactly what the government says it is going to do to make health care better in your town. Rural and remote people need to understand those commitments and hold the government to account. Local governments could individually or collectively establish a performance dashboard for the community, and update it quarterly to show whether any of these commitments have been delivered in your community or region for example. Publication of a strategy doesn't mean it that the outcomes anticipated will be delivered without local monitoring and reporting. If rural and remote people want reform, they need to keep public pressure on governments to account for the commitments they make publicly.
