Description

The Health Equity Toolkit provides tools, resources, and information for communities to tackle the social determinants of health—those conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work and age, including social and economic factors that have a great influence on people’s health.

Why is this useful for rural and remote people?

This is a community advocacy toolkit from the USA. It focusses on the social determinants of health - all the things that impact on whether we have good or bad health such as housing, employment, etc. Social determinants account for up to 70% of the reasons why rural and remote people have poorer health than people in cities. Any rural or remote community that wants to take local action to fix health challenges needs to understand how things like housing impact on individual health in order to work out solutions to these problems, and to advocate for resources to address issues from government.
