NSW Rural and Remote Education Strategy

Description
The NSW rural and remote education strategy is the first of its kind in NSW. In the document, NSW Education has formally recognised that small “rural and remote” communities are unique and require specific planning and resourcing to ensure that rural and remote kids get the same quality of education compared to major cities.
Why is this useful for rural and remote people?
This document is important for rural and remote people for two reasons: (1) it provides rural and remote people with a framework to argue that if the NSW Education Department can recognise that ‘rural and remote’ communities are unique, then other agencies such as Health should also be planning for ‘rural and remote communities’ in the same way; (2) the Plan acknowledges the centrality of a good education, and school attendance, to improving health and wellbeing across the life course. This document can be used by rural and remote people as a good example when advocating to government for planning and resources to meet the specific needs of rural and remote people and towns.
