Australian Institute of Health and Welfare

Description

The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare is a wealth of information about communities from population size, estimated population, health, housing, employment and every other conceivable thing about your community. While only limited information is available at a town level to protect privacy, you can use other levels of data called Statistical Areas and Local Government Areas to get data and information that will be similar for your local town.

Why is this useful for rural and remote people?

When putting together a business case for a grant, or seeking to understand how rural health compared with the cities or even another similar town, an excellent starting point is the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare. This is an independent government authority that collects data about health and welfare in Australia. Data is often broken down into local government areas, remoteness areas and other classifications to provide users with information about health services, access and outcomes. A vital tool in advocating for better investment in community health services, and targeting things that may be driving health outcomes.
