The National Rural and Remote Suicide Prevention Program is a first-of-kind program co-design by rural people to address the causes of suicide in our communities, and provide practical, evidence based support to communities & individuals.

THE PROGRAM

The National Rural and Remote Suicide Prevention Program is an Australian Government initiative to improve access to support for communities, professionals and individuals dealing with suicide.  The Program aims to deliver support to individuals experiencing suicidal ideation or who have been referred from acute care services.  It also works with governments, communities and businesses to co-design and deliver programs to educate young people and adults in the community about mental health, increase access to mental health services, upskill local health professionals and empower local people to support each other.

Suicide Prevention & Mental Health Community Action Plans

Community action plans are akin to road maps for implementing community-led change. They identify what will be done, who will do it and how it will be done. They describe exactly what a community wants to accomplish, how it will do so, and the resources needed to be successful. They become a framework for implementing topic specific activities within a community, all of which are community owned.

The Foundation can assist local government, communities and others to facilitate meetings where communities can form their own Community Suicide Prevention or Mental Health Working Group to formulate their own unique Action Plan that reflects the needs and priorities of their community.

We will assist your community to:

  • Collate and compile the results of the community engagement and consultation together to form the basis of the content for the Action Plan.
  • Graphically design a visually appealing document that details the actions and objectives from the community consultations that are priorities for the region.

  • Detail exactly what each action is, how it will be completed and how it will be measured to ensure that it has been completed.
