National Rural and Remote Suicide Prevention Program
Local people. Stronger communities. Suicide prevention that starts with connection.

Suicide prevention, shaped by community
The National Rural and Remote Suicide Prevention Program (NRRSP) works alongside rural and remote communities to strengthen local approaches to suicide prevention.
Designed in consultation with the communities it supports, the program is shaped by local needs and delivered by people who live and work in rural and remote Australia.
Through crisis support, training, education and community-led initiatives, we help build local skills, confidence and connection — so communities are better equipped to support their people when they need it most.
How we support communities
Crisis support
Sometimes people just need someone alongside them.
Our Crisis Support Program supports people experiencing a personal crisis that is affecting their mental health or day-to-day life. You don’t need a diagnosed mental health condition to access support.
Training & education
We help give people the skills and confidence to recognise when someone may need support and know what to do next.
Training includes suicide prevention and mental health programs for community members, health professionals, schools and organisations, including ASIST, safeTALK/safeYARN, Mental Health First Aid and Advanced Training in Suicide Prevention.
Community programs
Suicide prevention looks different in every community.
We work locally to deliver programs that build connection, strengthen wellbeing and get people talking about mental health — including NRL State of Mind school programs and Community Scrums.
Building local capacity
We want skills and knowledge to stay within communities.
We work alongside communities to identify what they need and support locally based suicide prevention initiatives, including access to funded training and community capacity-building activities.
Where we work
Supporting rural and remote communities across Australia.
Face-to-face services currently operate across Western NSW, Hunter NSW, Murrumbidgee, the NSW South Coast, Gippsland and Western Queensland, with the broader program designed for rural and remote communities.
