2020 Rural and Remote Health Awards

The RARMS 2020 Rural and Remote Health Awards recognise staff accomplishments in patient care, practice management and community support in rural and remote communities.

The award categories reflect the values and priorities of Rural and Remote Medical Services. In a year in which we have dealt with COVID there was so much to celebrate despite the challenges. There has been so much growth, change and development and everyone deserves praise for the part they have played.

Congratulations to all our staff who put in some notable performances.

Rural GP of the year This award goes to Dr Freddy Chafota for his contribution to RARMS patients and his commitment to improving health outcomes for patients with chronic diseases, clinical oversight and contribution to rosters. Congratulations Freddy!

Practice nurse of the year This award goes to Chris Letton RN (Warren). Despite juggling nurse shortages and practice management responsibilities Chris achieved the greatest KPI contribution to follow up of CDM care. Of particular mention is the relationship that Chris has developed with Coonamble Aboriginal Medical Service to support local indigenous health outcomes. Congratulations Chris!

All rounder - Practice Manager This award goes to Ash Mack (Collarenebri). Ash continues to go above and beyond in her role as Practice Manager. All though her practice is small she is known and appreciated for her generous support of other practices and the community and practice support team. Her engagement with the local community is impressive - of particular mention is her contribution to Naidoc Week. Her courteous, calm and collected manner has seen her overcome some significant challenges this year and it is appreciated by stakeholders, patients and GPs alike. She is proactive, organised and diligent. Congratulations Ash!

All rounder - Support Team

This award goes to Jenna Johnson.

Jenna was awarded this role for her work at RARMS Health Bingara.

Jenna goes above and beyond her duties to assist patients, staff and GPs. Jenna is forward thinking and proactive in her role and is always looking for ways to improve systems and processes. Both patients and co-workers commented that everything she does is with a smile. Jenna has upskilled to an MPA and her drive to perform in this role was identified through her work to help the practice with its excellent KPI performance. Jenna has since relocated and we were thrilled that this meant she could take up a promotion position as the Practice Manager at RARMS Health Warren. Congratulations Jenna!

Throughout the year Tracey has demonstrated keen interest in the organisational strategy and maintained an openness to the many organisational changes that have occurred. Tracey’s behaviour as a Practice Manager aligns with the RARMS values and it is evident within the Bourke team that Tracey cultivates a positive culture within the Bourke practice. Tracey actively promotes RARMS as a health service, employer and local business and is a positive influence within the Bourke community. Tracey has recently secured a scholarship through AAPM & Avant to complete the Diploma of Practice Management, demonstrating her willingness to expand on her capabilities and commitment to continuous improvement within the Bourke practice and RARMS as an organisation. Congratulations Tracey!
