Increasing local procurement to increase local economic activity and reduce carbon emissions from freight transport

The Challenge

Road transport accounted for around 85% of transport emissions (or about 16% of Australia's total emissions) in 2018.  Many remote and rural towns rely primarily on road based freight transport services for access to goods, including rural primary health care services.

Theory of Change

Increasing local procurement will reduce reliance on freight transport and contribute to a reduction in indirect carbon emissions improving the environmental health of residents.
