Increasing access to mental health training for rural and Aboriginal health professionals

The Challenge

There is a shortage of mental health professionals in rural communities which impacts on the ability of rural people to access appropriate care in a crisis or follow-up treatment.

Theory of Change

Providing training to health professionals in rural areas will increase access to appropriate clinical and behavioural support for rural residents experiencing a mental health crisis or requiring ongoing treatment.

Anticipated Outcomes

  1. Number of health professionals attending training

  2. Satisfaction with the quality of training

  3. Self-reported confidence in dealing with patients presenting with mental health concerns or suicidal ideation.
